Kuruleca urges parents to get help if their children’s behaviour is not normal
Renowned Psychiatrist Selina Kuruleca.

Parents have been urged to look out for how their children are behaving and get professional help if their behaviour is not normal.

Renowned Psychiatrist, Selina Kuruleca highlighted this after revelations by Education Minister Premila Kumar that students are being found with suicide notes in schools.

She says this is very concerning but also to be expected.

Kuruleca says our children like the adults have experienced a lot of anxiety, stress and frustrations associated with COVID and its related restrictions and socio-economic issues.

She also says some of our teachers have been trained to be able to pick up these signs and symptoms and address it, adding that we cannot just rely on teachers as it needs to be a whole system approach.

Kuruleca highlighted that we need to talk about mental health issues and everyday stresses and how to cope with it in a healthy manner.
