Minister for Education Premila Kumar has revealed they want to remove a number of subjects being taught from Years 1 to 3 and focus on numeracy, literacy, civic and moral education.
She adds the numeracy and literacy curriculum which has been completed by DFAT will be trialed in the new school year from April this year.
Kumar says it will be adopted after the trial.
She also says the life skills lessons in schools are not working if we continue to see students involved in brawls and increase in cases of domestic and gender based violence.
Kumar says she understands teachers have been teaching family life for years however she has questioned what is the result on the ground.
She says one of the major things they want to do is a education sector review and the Ministry is working with the development partners to put in submissions so that they can get funding.
Kumar says as soon as all that is done, they will be starting their review where a team will be appointed to meet with stakeholders to get their views on how education should be run in Fiji.
Meanwhile the Ministry is also looking to reduce internal exams for secondary schools where they want to move away from having exams in the middle of the school terms.
Kumar says they only want to keep the mid-year and annual exams.
She has also revealed that they will be scrapping exams for students from Years 1 to 3.
