Families need more time for relocation

Koya family at Muslim League Settlement won’t celebrate Christmas like before

Christmas celebrations will not be the same for the Koya family at the Muslim League Settlement in Nabua, as they are worried about their relocation.

This follows the notice given by the Fiji Muslim League to vacate the land by this Saturday.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Zareen Koya says while many people are looking forward to Christmas and New Year, however, her family is worried about where they will move to.

The 37-year-old says they know that they have been living on private property, but the time frame given to vacate the place is not enough.

She says people can’t rebuild houses or look for new land within 30 days.

Koya further says they have made memories within the neigbourhood with the love and care they have for one another.

She is requesting the government to consider a one-year time frame for the relocation, ensuring the people have enough time to look for a place.

More than 200 families reside at the Settlement.
