A man has been charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption for an electoral offence.
Eveni Cokiverata Koroituku is charged with one count of Non-Interference In a Campaign under Section 111 of the Electoral Act.
It is alleged that on or about the 13th of this month in Tavua Town, Koroituku hindered the lawful campaign activity of the FijiFirst Party by tearing off a billboard placement of the FijiFirst Party campaign material.
Resident Magistrate Jeremaia Savou ordered that the man be remanded in FICAC's custody and be produced in the Tavua Magistrates Court next Wednesday.
Koroituku’s case has been adjourned to 9am next Wednesday before Magistrate Samuela Qica.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Police Force received the initial complaint and conducted an investigation before referring the matter to FICAC under the Electoral Act for further investigation and prosecution.
The Fiji Police Force and FICAC have joined forces to investigate and prosecute offences under the Electoral Act as required under the electoral laws.
