Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran has emphasised the importance of spiritual education as we learn right from wrong while we are young and our lives depend on what we have learnt because we make decisions based on our teachings.
While speaking during the Ram Lalla Utsav in Olosara Sigatoka last night, Kiran says it is not easy to follow the teachings of the Ramayan because we live in a materialistic world.
Kiran says Lord Ram and his three brothers went to Gurukul and received a holistic education where they were prepared spiritually and in every other way for the world.
She says Lord Ram was not only a King but was an ideal son, father and husband.
Kiran says parents prepare their children for the material world but asks if we can give them spiritual education.
The Assistant Minister says if we are not taught wrong from right from an early age then there will be shortfalls.
She says it is easier to be evil and watch wrong being perpetuated but living a life like Lord Rama is difficult.
Meanwhile, Ram Lalla Utsav is being organised throughout the country to commemorate the opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, India, the birthplace of Lord Ram.
This has major significance for Hindus where celebrations are being organised in every part of the world.
The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center and the Indian high Commission in collaboration with Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji has organised an Utsav at various venues in Fiji.
The temple will be officially opened tomorrow.
