Keeping students home may have resulted in some students engaging in substance abuse - Kumar
Minister for Education, Premila Kumar.

Minister for Education, Premila Kumar says moving students from the school environment and keeping them at home may have resulted in some students engaging in substance abuse.

This comes as fijivillage has noted that some school students who returned to school last week were posting and commenting on social media that they had missed suki or cigarettes while in school.

She says they expected this as the pandemic had a huge mental impact on children.

Kumar further says if this happened outside the school environment, then this is the parent’s responsibility.

The Minister had earlier reminded teachers to have patience with students and had told them that things will not be the same.
