As talks continue on the U.S–Fiji Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica says he is optimistic that we will achieve some positive outcomes.

Trump had imposed a 32 percent tariff on Fijian exports, but a stay on the decision has been granted until August 1st.

Kamikamica says he cannot get into specifics as it is covered by confidentiality arrangements but says he has assured the Cabinet that he and the trade officials of Fiji are grateful to the U.S. government for allowing them to have detailed discussions on where Fiji would like to see the trade negotiations go.

The Deputy Prime Minister says from Fiji’s side, they have submitted all the necessary information, feedback, and responses to the U.S. on time.

He adds the talks are still ongoing as the deadline has been extended to next week.
