The Kadavu Students Association, comprising students from both the University of the South Pacific and Fiji National University, has undertaken efforts to pursue an educational tour aimed at assisting youths on the island.

Police say members of the joint association, out of concern for the prevailing issues impacting their province, have recognized their role in empowering the youth of Kadavu by providing constructive opportunities.

They say the Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, was invited to speak to the youths on Friday night, during which he commended the future leaders for their ambition.

Tudravu says this initiative reflects unity and highlights the commitment to preserving ties to their vanua, which might otherwise be lost in the fast-paced world we live in.

The Commissioner also highlighted in the past month alone, more than three tons of marijuana have been uprooted from Kadavu.

He also expressed concern that this trend is painting the island as a Red Zone, and questioned them if this is the Kadavu of today, what will the Kadavu of tomorrow look like.

Tudravu also challenged the students to take part in the joint outreach and make a meaningful difference in the future of Kadavu.
