Italy's Lamont Marcell Jacobs is the new sprint king of the world after he claimed a shock gold in the Olympic Men’s 100 metres final this morning.
Jacobs who switched from long jump in 2018 clocked a time of 9.80 seconds.
Fred Kerley of the US finished second while Canada's Andre de Grasse won a second successive Olympic bronze medal.
World champion Christian Coleman and Trayvon Bromell who clocked the fastest time this year were both absent from the final.
Bromell was eliminated in the semi-finals.
Jamaican superstar Yohan Blake did not qualify for the final as well after finishing 6th in the semifinal.
Jacobs who was born in Texas to an American father but moved to his mother's Italian homeland before his first birthday only broke the 10-second barrier for the first time in May this year.
