We want media freedom in Fiji and I apologize to the media organizations and the people on behalf of the government for the draconian Media Act that was put in place without proper consultations by the previous government.

This was stated by Attorney General, Siromi Turaga at Dialogue Fiji’s Report Launch and Panel Discussion of the Fiji Media Industry Development Act 2010.

Turaga says it is too early to say if the Media Act will be reviewed or repealed.

He adds there are issues for consideration and it is too early to speculate what will be the final outcome.

Turaga also says some issues need to be addressed but as witnessed there needs to be proper consultations which was never done when the Media Decree came into place in 2010.
