It is important to demonstrate the length and breadth of our Fijian culture.

This was a comment from United Kingdom Flames Project Coordinator Charlie Kama on the purpose of conducting the Bula Festival for Fijian communities in the United Kingdom.

Kama says as the Fijian community in the UK, they organise this festival to celebrate and showcase Fijian cultural heritage and what they need to build together for their future generation, not forgetting their contribution to the UK.

He says during this event they showcase Fijian culture and language, Fijian mass choir, topical debates for Fijian youth, Fijian rugby and netball talents.

Kama further says this event also featured the 212 Fijian Ex-British Army soldiers who joined the army in 1961.

While speaking during the Vakatabu conference, the President of the 212 Flames Fijian Ex-British Brats Meretui Ratunabuabua says parents need to make use of their time to teach their children about language and culture because the transmission of traditional knowledge from elders to youth plays a vital role in communities.

Ratunabuabua adds our culture is our identity and personality gives us spiritual, intellectual and emotional distinction from others.
