Isoa Vonu jailed for violent Nakasi home invasion

A man has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for a violent home invasion in Nakasi last year.

Isoa Vonu was convicted of one count of aggravated robbery by High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.

At 2am on 4th September last year, Vonu and two others broke into the house as the family was sleeping.

A man, his wife and four daughters lived in the house.

Vonu who was wearing a mask was armed with a knife and placed it on the homeowner’s neck and demanded cash.

They went onto rob the family of $1,800 and a mobile phone.

It was heard in court that the owner of the house had stitches on his face after the incident.

Most of the stolen items have not been recovered.

Justice Rajasinghe has considered the 1 year Vonu spent in remand as a period of imprisonment that has already been served.

He says accordingly, the actual sentencing period is 9 years imprisonment with a non parole period of 7 years.
