Investigation underway on leaked photos of Bainimarama and Qiliho from prison
Acting Commissioner of Corrections Senior Superintendent Salote Panapasa

The Fiji Corrections Service has apologized to the Bainimarama and Qiliho families for the disclosure of the photographs of inmates Voreqe Bainimarama and Sitiveni Qiliho which have been widely circulated on social media.

Acting Commissioner of Corrections Senior Superintendent Salote Panapasa says she issued a directive last night for a comprehensive investigation which is currently in progress.

She says the findings of the investigation will be submitted to her office today.

Panapasa says disciplinary action will be taken against the Corrections personnel responsible.

The Acting Commissioner adds they understand that words alone cannot fully alleviate the hurt that has been caused.

She adds they are profoundly sorry for any anguish or inconvenience this has caused to the Bainimarama and Qiliho families.

Former Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama has been sentenced to 1 year imprisonment after being found guilty of one count of attempt to pervert the course of justice in the University of the South Pacific case while Qiliho has been sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for the charge of abuse of office.
