Investigation underway after Labasa Town Council Chair defies Minister's directive
Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa

A team from the Ministry of Local Government is currently investigating after allegations that Labasa Town Council Chair, Paul Jaduram defied a ministerial directive to immediately withdraw the suspension of the Acting CEO Mohammed Faiz Ali.

The directive was issued last Thursday by the Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa.

The situation has sparked concern, with the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and prominent ratepayers calling for the immediate removal of Jaduram.

The statement from the Chamber outlines multiple issues including medical unfitness, abuse of office, exceeding authority, disregarding Standard Operating Procedures and creating disunity.

The Labasa Chamber of Commerce expressed full confidence in the Acting CEO, crediting his leadership for the unprecedented growth and investment seen in Labasa in recent times.

The Ministry’s investigation will focus on the circumstances surrounding the Acting CEO's suspension, the Chair’s decision to defy ministerial instruction and other allegations made against Jaduram.
