World Rugby says initial enquiries into allegations of homophobia against Fiji Rugby Union Chairman Francis Kean are ongoing and they will be publishing an update in due course.

World Rugby has said that it is important to stress that any allegations must be validated.

It also says rugby is a sport built on strong and inclusive values and World Rugby does not in any way condone any abusive or discriminatory behaviour, as outlined within its by-laws.

World Rugby Chairman, Sir Bill Beaumont has stated that Fiji's seat on the World Rugby Council is held by the Fiji Rugby Union and was never awarded to Kean himself.

ABC Pacific Beat is reporting that World Rugby would not say when that update might be delivered, or who is leading the investigation. They are also saying that a former Corrections officer making the allegations against Kean, is saying that World Rugby should do something about the issue.

The Guardian had earlier revealed that two former Corrections officers were seeking asylum from Australia, however their applications have been rejected by the Australian government as there was no proof of their lives being under threat.

Francis Kean has not made any comments on the allegations made by the former officers.

The Fiji Rugby Union has said that it will not make any public comments.
