The Papua New Guinea Minister for Foreign Affairs Justin Tkatchenko announced that the next high-profile individual to visit the country will be the Prime Minister for India, Narendra Modi when he visits the country in May to meet with Pacific Island Leaders.
The Minister says it is going to be a historical event as they have never had the PM of one of the biggest leading economies come to PNG before.
Tkachenko says it shows the commitment that India wants to play in the region and with PNG going forward.
The Minister also confirmed that PNG is co-hosting this summit with India.
It will also see the Indian PM holding bilateral meetings with the heads of Pacific Island states on political and business partnerships.
Fourteen Pacific Island state leaders will meet up in Port Moresby to attend the summit.
The event will be held in Port Moresby city from the 21st of May.
