If a student gets free tertiary education it is only fair that Fiji bonds that student.
This has been stated by Fiji Revenue and Customs Service CEO Mark Dixon who says the country is currently facing a skills shortage right, and while we do not want to stop people migrating, the bond option has to be taken.
Dixon says what they do not want is for students to migrate as soon as they get their qualifications.
He says students who wish to do that will have to repay, unlike students who serve a bond.
The CEO further says Fiji gets the benefit of them working to repay the investment that the country made in them.
He says they will have a role going forward in making sure those bonding arrangements are adhered to, which means they will monitor students who seek to leave the country before they have completed their bond service.
