National Federation Party candidate, Sashi Kiran says she chose to contest the elections for many reasons with the pandemic fresh in her mind.
She adds every time she thinks about the pandemic, it breaks her heart as many people were terminated or sent home.
Kiran says when they went out, they saw the suffering of the people.
She says the people who were locked in by the government themselves did not have any resources or food provided to them.
She says this is the time when she realised people could not afford houses, rent, and food and they were moving in with family members overcrowding their homes.
Kiran also says when natural disasters happened, floods happened, only NGOs stepped in to provide food and the Government was nowhere to be seen.
She further says when Lautoka Hospital was locked down with 450 people including, doctors, nurses and patients, the Fijian Government did not even provide them with mattresses to sleep on.
Kiran says everyone was just locked in overnight and it was the NGO that stood up and provided them with things that were needed for doctors and nurses who stood between them and the disease.
The NFP candidate says if the government was smart enough, they would have said they were working with the NGOs and doing it with a partnership, but no they went ahead and criticised them.
She also says in 16 years most of the hospitals are falling apart - many times they have absolutely nothing which is needed like syringes, needles and medicines.
Kiran says this gave her a lot of insight into what is happening which broke her heart enough for her to take steps to do something about all of these.
