I always wanted to play for Fiji, just didn’t know how - Chapman
Sportsworld Fijian U20 flanker Sam Chapman

Sportsworld Fijian U20 flanker Sam Chapman says growing up he always wanted to play for Fiji as they produce some of the best players in the globe, but he just did not know how.

Chapman thought he would have to move home to Fiji and play, but he got the opportunity at Otago Boys to play for the New Zealand Fijian team and the rest is history.

Commenting on the younger players in the team, Chapman who has links to Qarani, Gau says he does not think age plays too much of a part.

The flanker says the best player plays, and if the younger boys are the best players, they deserve to be there and wear the jersey.

He says it is good to get the younger players in there so they can get an early experience, but if the older players are there and they are better, they should be there.

With it being his second year in the squad Chapman says his advice to the youngsters is to absorb as much as they can.

The 30-man squad is currently preparing for the Oceania Rugby Under-20 Challenge, which will be held in New Zealand next month.

The same squad will be participating in the Under-20 Super Rugby competition.
