Hundreds gathered at the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi to take part in the annual Thaipusam Thirunaal Puja to worship Lord Murugan, the son of Lord Shiva.

People from overseas and all over the country came to the temple to perform and take part in the religious ceremony, where devotees undergo piercings on their cheeks, tongue, or body to demonstrate unwavering faith.

Devotees also carry a Kavadi, a physical structure often elaborately decorated, which they offer to Lord Murugan as an act of devotion and penance.

Individuals who participate in the ceremony are required to follow a vegetarian diet for at least 45 days before the commencement of the prayer.

Meanwhile, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad also participated in the sacred prayers.

He said it is a journey of faith, sacrifice, and reflection that culminates at the temple in Nadi.

The annual prayer concludes today.
