As thousands of Hindus prepare to celebrate Ganesha Visarjan this Thursday, the festival culminating in the immersion of a statue of Lord Ganesha into the water, the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha is urging devotees not to contaminate the environment.
Acting President, Dhirendra Nand says all flowers, leaves, grass and certain other condiments must be ritually immersed in running water.
He says immersion of Ganesha idols are to be done with safety and in deep sea.
Nand is also encouraging people to immerse in environment-friendly ways like immersing in tanks or drums.
Ganesha Visarjan is a culmination of 10 days of Ganesha Chaturthi which is a festival that marks the birth of the elephant-headed deity Ganesh, the god of prosperity and wisdom.
