Hill calls on govt to continue to invest in tourism
Tourism Fiji CEO, Brent Hill

Around 923,000 tourists arrived in the country last year, and Tourism Fiji is hoping that the number will increase in 2024, however, CEO Brent Hill says Fiji needs more investments in the tourism sector to keep that momentum going.

Hill says the arrival of tourists in April saw a 0.4 percent increase from last year, and they are preparing for their peak periods in the coming months.

He says the April figure represents another $276 million that came into the economy.

The CEO adds that they have also met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad, and they have made a call to him to continue to invest in tourism.

Hill says they are also working on increasing their tourist numbers from Australia since 45 percent of the total tourist arrivals are from Australia.

He adds they are also seeing a very competitive landscape ahead of them, and they hope the government will continue to invest in tourism.

The CEO says the tourism sector is important as it generates investment and employment for the locals.
