Heavy rain warning remains in force for eastern half of Viti Levu

A heavy rain warning remains in force for the eastern half of Viti Levu which includes Pacific Harbour, Navua, Suva, Nausori and Tailevu, the interior of Viti Levu and Lau and Lomaiviti Group.

The Nadi Weather Office says that a trough of low pressure is affecting the country and is expected to affect the country until the weekend.

People can expect rain, heavy at times and thunderstorms.

Localized heavy rain can lead to the flooding of low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, flood waters have started to recede in Waidamudamu, Nausori as heavy rain had caused flash flooding in the area earlier today.

There are more than 200 houses in Waidamudamu.



Resident Umesh Chand said the water level was about 4 to 5 feet high but it has receded.

Some vehicles were are also underwater.

Flood waters have also started to recede in Vusuya Road in Nausori.

Thousands of people living in the area were affected this morning by flooding caused by the heavy rain and blocked drains.

Meanwhile, part of the road leading to the Sasawira Settlement in Nausori has been washed away due to the heavy rain.

Fiji Roads Authority says their teams are assessing the situation.
