The Head of the Vaccination Taskforce of the Health Ministry, Doctor Rachel Devi says based on the availability of the AstraZeneca doses, they are aiming to get almost 70% of the target population fully vaccinated by September or October this year.
While speaking on the Straight Talk With Vijay Narayan program, Doctor Devi says this would mean 410,655 people would be fully vaccinated.
The target population is 586,651. Doctor Devi says 250,160 people in Fiji have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, AstraZeneca so far while 8,646 Fijians are now fully vaccinated
Doctor Devi says 59,000 people are due for their second jabs this week and next week, so the number of fully vaccinated will also start to rise now.
She also confirms that a small portion of vaccinations will also start in the North from next week as more doses are coming in.
The vaccinations are currently focused on Viti Levu as that is the area of concern with rising cases.
70,000 more doses are coming from Australia this week.
