Minister for Health Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete confirms that the COVID-19 vaccines will arrive from New Zealand next month so children between the ages of 12 to 14 years can be vaccinated and protected.
While speaking to villagers in Yasawa, Dr Waqainabete commended the Fijian people for accepting the COVID-19 vaccines as they have seen that the high number of fully vaccinated people has reduced the number of identified cases, the number of people admitted and deaths.
He says the vaccines that are used in the country are all donated from partner countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan and India.
The Health Minister says the reduction in case numbers and deaths is the result of the high number of people coming forward to take their shots.
Meanwhile, 86.3% of the target adult population is now fully vaccinated while 96.3% have received their first jab.
13,869 students aged between 15 to 17 years have now been fully vaccinated while 30,585 students have received their first dose.
