Hard work and perseverance has paid off for Fiji Men’s 7s player Kaminieli Rasaku after being named in the national team for the Dubai 7s.

The 22-year-old says he struggled in the beginning of his rugby career and made many attempts to be part of the national 7s squad.

Rasaku says it was heartbreaking when he was not selected to be part of the 13 players for the Olympic Games and he just wanted to hang his boots and return to farming.

Rasaku says he is thankful to have a supportive family.

He is urging upcoming rugby players to work hard and persevere.

The Men’s and Women’s 7s team will depart for the Dubai 7s tomorrow.

The Fiji Men’s 7s team is in Pool A with Australia, Canada and France.

Argentina is in Pool B with Kenya, Spain and the USA.

2021 Series Champions South Africa is in Pool C with Ireland, Great Britain and Japan.

In the women’s category, France, Australia, USA, Brazil and Spain are in Pool A while Olympic bronze medallists Fijian leads Pool B with Canada, Great Britain, Ireland and Russia.

The first Dubai 7s competition will be held from next Friday to Sunday while the second Dubai 7s competition will be held on the 3rd and 4th of December.
