A 38-year-old government vehicle driver who allegedly failed to stop at a checkpoint in Martintar during curfew hours on Wednesday and was later arrested at a hotel in Nadi has been remanded in custody.

Rajneel Kumar of Sakoca, Tamavua who was also allegedly found with smoking apparatus in the hotel room appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court this morning.

Kumar has been charged with a count each of unlawful possession of controlled equipment, failure to comply orders, failure to obey traffic direction and dangerous driving.

It has been established that Kumar was driving a government vehicle registration, GQ 107 when he failed to stop at the checkpoint.

Police Prosecutor, Parmesh Chand objected to bail and told the court that there has been a serious breach of trust where a government vehicle is involved and the actions show disrespect towards law enforcement officers who were manning the checkpoint.

Magistrate, Peni Dalituicama has adjourned the case to next Friday for bail ruling.
