The Department of Environment says the importation, exportation, or manufacture of any equipment containing hydrochlorofluorocarbon will be strictly prohibited from August 1st.

HCFCs are chemicals primarily used as refrigerants in air conditioning and refrigeration systems, foam blowing agents for producing insulating foam, solvents for cleaning electronic components and other precision cleaning, and, less commonly nowadays, as propellants in aerosol products.

They say this comes into effect under Part III, Section 14(7A) of the Ozone Depleting Substances Amendment Act 2020.

The Ministry says HCFCs are ozone-depleting substances regulated under Part 2 Group 1 of Schedule 1 of the Ozone Depleting Substances Act 2020.

They add that failure to comply may result in penalties, legal actions and confiscation of equipment.
