Govt should tackle the supply and demand chain to tackle drugs in Fiji - Naupoto
Opposition Group of 9 Member of Parliament, Viliame Naupoto and Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka

The aspect of tackling the drug problem is a deterrent, as studies have shown that it is not the severity of punishment that deters criminal behaviour rather it is the certainty of punishment and the swiftness of justice that deters.

This was highlighted by Opposition Group of 9 Member of Parliament, Viliame Naupoto in parliament today when stressing the need to tackle the drug problem in Fiji.

While delivering his end of the week statement, Naupoto says opportunity presents itself through the systems and processes that he mentioned.

He says it takes collective effort from the public to battle the drugs issue and he is positive the government is heading in the right direction in battling drugs.

Naupoto says the suggested Drug and Investigation or Commission that the government is planning to set up will help the government look into the real issue of drugs.

Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka in his response thanked Naupoto for his statement, bringing out the serious problem that people are all facing as a nation.

Rabuka says he welcomes the suggestion that Naupoto has just raised about establishing this Drug Investigation or Commission, to look into the real issue of drugs.

He says that this reminds him of their responsibilities as leaders.
