The government is focusing on revitalising the Fiji Museum, which has been operating since the 1990s and plans are underway to build new state-of-the-art storage facilities for the museum's collection, with an estimated cost of $2 million.

Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu highlighted that the museum had been neglected in recent years, but improvements have been seen through fundraising, sponsorships and cost-cutting efforts.

Vasu says the government has provided operational and capital grants, as well as infrastructure upgrades including solar panels, water tanks and waste management systems. He adds that there are also plans to enhance security with IT systems and to build new storage facilities.

The Minister says the museum is also developing educational material and digital projects to engage the public and preserve Fiji’s cultural heritage.
