The Coalition Government is committed to addressing some fundamental issues within the informal settlements such as attaining proper titles, drainage and access to utility services, that include electricity and water.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad highlighted this during the stakeholders meeting with representatives and residents of Nadawa.

Professor Prasad says the Government's mid-long-term strategy is to ensure affordable housing is available to the people of Fiji which is also part of the National Development Plan.

He says the National Development Plan will be launched soon which will also establish mechanisms and plans to address the bigger issue of informal settlements.

The Deputy Prime Minister also proposed to have further discussions with relevant stakeholders to resolve these issues amicably for the benefit of the residents.

He adds that these issues can’t be resolved tomorrow and will require time.

The Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Housing, Nasinu Land Purchase and Housing Co-operative Ltd and the representatives of the area including the residents were also present at the meeting.
