More than 9,000 families have been assisted through Government’s Care and Protection Allowance since August last year.
The Care and Protection Allowance is a social protection scheme specifically targeted at assisting poor and vulnerable children through providing monthly cash allowances and food vouchers.
Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar says the beneficiaries include children living in single-headed households, children living with elderly caregivers and disabilities and those in residential care homes.
The budget allocation for the Care and Protection Allowance is $12.3 million for this financial year.
Akbar says they are pleased that Government’s budget for 2021/2022 continues to support the funding of the existing social protection programs such as the Poverty Benefit Scheme, Disability Allowance, Social Pension Scheme, Rural Pregnant Mothers Food Voucher Program, and the Care and Protection Allowance.
Applications for Care and Protection Allowance can be lodged at the nearest Welfare Office where people will be required to fill a form which will be validated by a welfare officer.
