Great news for Fiji’s Kava industry as the German Court has lifted the 20-year ban that had stopped Kava from being marketed as a pharmaceutical product.

The German Court lifted the ban on the 18th of June, this year.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka posted on his Facebook account that this is a huge opportunity for Fiji and the Pacific region.

Rabuka says the recent court decision in Germany could open the door for Kava to be sold in Europe and beyond.

He says this would not only boost Kava exports but also support the thousands of Fijians who rely on Kava farming.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica says it’s a big step toward expanding Fiji’s global reach and boosting the economy.

Kamikamica emphasised that the government is committed to helping Kava producers seize this opportunity and is working hard to ensure Fiji is ready to meet international standards so that when new markets open up, we can make the most of it.
