Fiji National University has launched the 2025 Inter Tertiary Moot Competition, featuring a rivalry with the University of the South Pacific, where students will apply real-world legal skills to a constitutional and digital law problem.

The event highlights FNU’s commitment to practical legal education.

This year’s competition brings an exciting contest between FNU, last year’s champions, and USP.

Associate Dean of CHEL Dr. Lavinia Tiko, highlights the importance of mooting as a practical learning tool.

As host, she says FNU welcomes law students from across Fiji’s tertiary institutions to showcase their advocacy skills and legal knowledge.

She adds that mooting helps students bridge the gap between theory and legal practice, building skills such as legal reasoning, teamwork, and confidence.

FNU’s Head of the School of Law, Ethics and Governance, Ana Rokomokoti, says this year’s moot problem challenges students to interpret Fiji’s Constitution carefully, particularly on issues related to the digital space.

She says students from both FNU and USP are ready for the competition.

FNU’s Avikali Rokowati says her team is working hard on research and preparation to defend their title.

Meanwhile, USP’s Soane Kualepeli Tupola describes the competition as a valuable chance to develop advocacy and oral presentation skills.

The competition reflects FNU’s ongoing commitment to preparing law students for the realities of the legal profession.
