12 marginalized struggling individuals have been given the opportunity to earn a respectful living through Aruka Fiji's 12 module programme.
Aruka Fiji, a Suva-based non-governmental organization dedicated to uplifting vulnerable communities, hosted the graduation of its inaugural training cohort yesterday.
While speaking to the graduates, Government MP, Lynda Tabuya reflected on the symbolic significance of the golden sunshine and the yellow kalavata worn by the graduates, stating that it represents growth, hope and new beginnings.
She says this certificate is proof that their worth is never defined by their pain.
Tabuya says they are not victims or statistics — they are educators of resilience.
She encouraged the graduates to never give up, reminding them that their journey forward is just beginning.
The graduates also shared their personal stories of transformation.
Diddy, who wishes not to use his real name, a graduate from the Solomon Islands expressed how the program helped him grow mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Another graduate, Timaima Lika Bulileka, reflected on her transition from working in the cleaning industry to now pursuing a brighter and more hopeful future.
All 12 graduates expressed deep gratitude to Aruka Fiji and its founder for opening doors and creating pathways toward personal and professional empowerment.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Aruka Fiji’s Founder and Director, Ratu Inoke Drauna, offered a message to struggling youth that it’s just a phase – and there is help available.
Ratu Inoke emphasized the significance of training that addresses the challenges faced by individuals living on the streets.
He highlighted that his organization has conducted profiling to identify areas of concern and assess actions that could improve the lives of street dwellers.
Through this process, Ratu Inoke recognized the importance of such training in making a meaningful impact.
Ratu Inoke shared that many of Aruka Fiji’s graduates are vulnerable women and girls who have been deprived of formal education and have turned to the streets to earn a living.
He expressed a strong belief in leaving no one behind and stands firmly against discrimination and stigmatization.
