Foundation students would repeat courses until they got the desired GPA for TELS or Toppers – Kumar
Education Minister Premila Kumar and NFP MP Lenora Qereqeretabua.

Education Minister Premila Kumar says it has been found that students doing foundation studies would repeat courses until they got the desired GPA to apply for Toppers scholarships or TELS.

While explaining in parliament why foundation studies are not supported by the Tertiary Students and Loans Services, Kumar says Year 13 and foundation studies differ in several ways.

She says Government offers Year 13 free while foundation students have to pay for their studies.

Kumar adds it was not fair for Year 13 students.

While delivering her End of the Week Statement on Quality Education in Fiji, NFP MP Lenora Qereqeretabua says the remarks by the Education Minister were ridiculous and were an insult of the highest order to the many parents and their children who missed out not only on scholarships but also TELS loans just because they opted for foundation.
