Five people issued traffic infringement notices for reckless driving on Mead Road

Five people have been issued traffic infringement notices for careless driving in connection with a viral video that surfaced last week, showing vehicles being driven recklessly along Mead Road.

The Fiji Police Force says a raid was conducted by the Southern Division Taskforce at the Mead Road Housing Complex, where police gathered information that led to the identification of those allegedly involved.

Police confirm that the investigation is ongoing to identify a sixth person, who is alleged to have provided false information to the rental car company.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Aporosa Lutunauga says the investigation will not stop until all individuals responsible are held accountable.

He emphasises that all involved will be taken to task for their irresponsible and reckless behaviour that endangered the lives of innocent road users.

In response to criticism from a media outlet that described the police response as “lip service,” the Acting Commissioner said such comments are “uncalled for.”

He adds that investigations take time, as evidence must be carefully gathered before charges are laid, and that police cannot simply guess or assume who was driving the vehicles at the time of the incident.

The Force has reaffirmed its commitment to road safety and is urging members of the public to act responsibly on the roads, reminding everyone to be considerate and respectful of all road users.
