Fishing communities in Kadavu will now be able improve the storage and shelf life of fish products following the donation of 3 sets of solar powered freezers valued at $56,940 by the Taiwan Government.

This is the third time that Taiwan has donated solar powered freezers to fishing communities in the outer islands since 2020.

While handing over the funds to Minister of Fisheries, Semi Koroilavasau, the Representative of Taipei Trade Office in Fiji, Joseph Chow says the Taiwan Government is glad to support the fisheries industry by donating solar freezers to the remote communities in the outer islands lacking access to ice plants.

Aside from the assistance in the development of remote fishing communities, Taiwan has set up the fisheries hatchery center in Caboni to produce shrimp larva and fish fry for fish farmers who will soon be able to produce large quantities of shrimps, milk fish, grouper, rabbit fish and mullet in the near future.

Koroilavasau says they are grateful to Taiwan for its assistance in acquaculture and the development of the fishing communities in the outer islands.
