The Fijian dignitaries were treated to a special Japanese green tea last night to celebrate the Emperor of Japan’s 64th birthday, at the Japanese Ambassador to Fiji’s residence in Princess Road.
Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Rokuichiro Michii, says the Japanese tea ceremony is a performing art that finds and loves simplicity and imperfect beauty in a way of life regardless of rank in society.
In his welcoming speech, the Ambassador says Fiji and Japan are important partners in the international community.
Michi says Japan will continue its support for the sustainable development of Fiji in the years to come and stands in solidarity with the Government and the people of Fiji on the common values shared by both countries.
He says Japan will continue to help Fiji to collectively build cohesive societies for a brighter future for its people, the Pacific and the rest of the world.
President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere and First Lady Filomena Katonivere were Chief guests at the birthday celebration.
Other Fiji dignitaries that attended the Emperor's birthday included Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad, former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, former Presidents Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and Joji Konrote.
