Fiji to host historic UN CEDAW session, first in the Pacific
Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya

Fiji will host the first-ever Pacific Technical Cooperation Session of the UN CEDAW Committee in Suva in April next year, marking the first time the session is held outside Geneva.

Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya says the event is a milestone for Fiji and the Pacific, showcasing progress and challenges in advancing gender equality.

She reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to upholding CEDAW principles and empowering women and girls in the region.

CEDAW Chairperson Ana Peláez Nerváez called the session a historic moment, emphasising its importance in addressing the unique challenges faced by Pacific women.

Nerváez says this groundbreaking session aims to accelerate progress towards gender equality and highlight the Pacific’s role in advancing women’s rights globally.
