Fiji loses World Cup qualifying hopes after heavy defeat to Vanuatu

Fiji has lost all chances of qualifying for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 after a heavy 89-run defeat to Vanuatu in the East Asia Pacific Qualifier tournament at Albert Park this afternoon.

Batting in the second innings, Fiji were bowled out in 17.5 overs. Vanuatu had scored 149 for 3 in their 20 overs.

Fiji will now take on the Philippines in the semi-final of the 5th place play-off at 9am tomorrow.

In the other 5th place semi-final, the Cook Islands will face Samoa, also at 9am.

In the main semi-finals, Vanuatu will play Papua New Guinea, while Japan faces Indonesia at 1.30pm.
