Bus operators in Fiji have highlighted their concerns to the Coalition Government, Land Transport Authority and the Higher Education Commission regarding the shortage of drivers as several drivers have moved overseas.

The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission Steve Chand highlighted this during a talanoa session in Suva.

Chand says the LTA, the Higher Education Commission and the government are putting up plans to establish a new driving academy in the country.

He says some bus companies are planning to put their businesses on hold and park their buses because there is a shortage of drivers with full driving licenses.

He adds they are still in discussions with the LTA on ways to map out how well they can roll out the program while it's still in the infant stages.

Chand says they will be having discussions with the Chairman for LTA to finalise their plans which will be submitted to the Government soon.
