Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Acting Chief of Protocol, Paulo Daurewa says Fiji and Japan are in the new era of cooperation.

Daurewa highlighted this at the 63rd birthday celebration of the Emperor of Japan.

He says Fiji and Japan share a strong historical and enduring bilateral relation of 53 years which continues to strengthen based on the friendship among the people, mutually beneficial investment, trade and business connections, cultural exchanges, scholarships and close people-to-people ties.

Japan’s Ambassador to Fiji Kawakami Fumihiro says Fiji and Japan are members of the uniquely special family of nations which is united and bonded by the Pacific Ocean.

He says it is no doubt that solidarity between Japan and Fiji is anchored by common values such as freedom, democracy, rule of law, respect for human rights and the environment.

The reception was attended by the President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, former President and Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament and members of the diplomatic corp.
