The Fiji Women’s Basketball side went down fighting 75-74 to a strong Samoa outfit in their third pool match of the 2023 Pacific Games Basketball competition.
Fiji led 16-13 in the first quarter, and 39-34 at halftime before giving away the lead to Samoa 57-52 in the third quarter.
Despite the loss, the team has qualified for the quarter finals and will await the outcomes of the other games that are yet to be played today to determine their opponent.
Coach Earl Hughes says they missed a few open shots which proved too costly for them.
Hughes says overall, the girls managed to come back in the final quarter despite being 10 points down and fought till the final whistle.
The women’s quarter finals will kick off at 3.30pm Thursday, the semi finals will begin at 1pm Friday, the bronze final will start at 10am Saturday and the gold medal match will start at 3pm Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Men’s Basketball side will take on Tonga at 7pm tonight in their third pool match before playing New Caledonia at 4.45pm tomorrow in their final pool match.
