The Fiji Times has come under fire after publishing a caption labeling a photo of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as coup leader meets a war criminal.
Prime Minister Rabuka says the controversial caption has sparked outrage from him and senior officials.
Rabuka stresses that the newspaper’s wide circulation both within Fiji and internationally makes the editorial choice especially damaging.
He adds that such reporting is unbecoming of the major newspaper of an emerging power in the Pacific and could harm Fiji’s global reputation.
