The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team has finished in third place in the 2019/2020 HSBC 7s Series after the cancellation of the remaining rounds of the season due to the ongoing and dynamic global nature of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Paris, London, Singapore and Hong Kong 7s in September and October have been cancelled.

Fiji finished the series with 83 points while New Zealand finished on top with 115 points followed by South Africa with 104 points.

The New Zealand Women’s 7s team won the Women’s 7s Series.

The Fijiana 7s team completed the Women’s 7s Series in 7th place with 38 points.

The decision to cancel the remaining tournaments follows a detailed and constructive dialogue with the host and participating unions and has been taken with the health and well-being of the rugby community.

World Rugby Chairman Sir Bill Beaumont says rugby sevens is a key driver of global growth for the sport, particularly in emerging nations, and it firmly remains a top priority for the organisation.

He adds 2021 has the potential to be a very exciting year for rugby sevens with the Tokyo Olympic Games on the horizon.

The HSBC 7s Series was suspended in March due to the pandemic with World Rugby hoping to have the remaining tournaments, the Paris, London, Singapore and Hong Kong 7s in September and October.
