The Former President of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation David Aidney says he took the Federation out of a rut following the 2000 coup.

While speaking at the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation in Suva this morning, Aidney says when he was made Acting President in 1999, he saw a growing concern with the drop in membership.

Aidney says a survey then revealed that the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation was not meeting the expectations of businesses.

He says at that time, he decided he did not want to be the President for its title but to make changes.

Aidney says that is what he did and this was not received well by a number of board members but he continued to push forward and made a succession plan.

He says this plan resulted in the rise in membership.

Aidney says the appointment of people like Nesbitt Hazelman and Kameli Batiweti is good as every organisation needs new blood to take them forward.

The Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation celebrated its 60th Anniversary today.

President of the Board Sandeep Chauhan says determined and creative thinkers built the foundation of the organisation.

Chauhan says they will go beyond horizons to offer the best they can.
