The Fiji Cancer Society is calling on the government to ensure there is no cancer equity and everyone is provided easy access to their treatment, management and affiliated services regardless of anyone's age, gender and ethnicity.
CEO Belinda Chan made this statement to fijivillage News this morning as we celebrate World Cancer Day.
Chan says where any Fijians live does not determine whether they have access to their treatment or not, and it's the responsibility of the government and Medical Services to ensure that our cancer patients are well looked after.
She says a lot of money is spent on treating cancer, and the Fiji Cancer Society believes collaboration between the public and private sectors is critical.
The CEO says the society has been raising awareness for years on how to prevent cancer from being the third leading cause of death in the country, but now people need to take ownership of their health.
Fiji Cancer Society will be having a World Cancer Day Landmark Lighting at the Grand Pacific Hotel this afternoon.
