The Fiji Women's Crisis Centre received a total of 9,478 cases in 2021, out of which 6,864 cases related to domestic violence.
This was revealed during their candlelight vigil to remember the 41 women who passed away due to domestic violence in the last 9 years.
Out of the total reports last year, there were 51 cases of rape, 16 cases of attempted rape, 58 cases of child rape and 70 cases of sexual harassment.
According to FWCC’S Acting Research Manager Natasha Nair, these numbers are indicators of the high incidents of violence women are experiencing in Fiji.
Nair has also revealed that they have attended to 818 rape survivors between 2016 to 2021 which includes 225 child rape survivors.
She says the youngest child rape survivor seen was 2 years old while the oldest was 17.
Meanwhile the Centre received 605 cases of domestic violence in January this year.
They have also received 4 cases rape and 14 cases of child rape.
