The Fiji Women Crisis Centre has conducted a three-day gender and child protection training session for 20 coaches and referees of the Suva Volleyball Association.
FWCC community educator Ilisapeci Veibuli lauded the association for ensuring their technical staff were trained in gender and child protection, given their work with young people in the broader community.
Suva Volleyball Association General Secretary Semaima Lagilagi says they made the training mandatory because the technical staff worked closely with youths.
Lagilagi says they have decided that all of their technical staff would first have to complete gender and child protection training before they would be allowed to continue with coaching training.
FWCC Coordinator Shamima Ali says the Suva Volleyball Association has taken the initiative to seek training in the key areas to generate interest from other sporting organisations or institutions who work with youths, children, women and girls who seek training with them.
